A Hardy/Greys Approved Academy Instructor

Hi, my name is Mike Roden and I'm a fly fishing instructor. Please note that I said flyfishing instructor NOT casting instructor. Fly casting is a necessary skill that on it's own will not catch fish. You need lots of other stuff to go with it if you want to really enjoy and be successful at this great pastime.
Nearly 20 years ago a work colleague invited me to join him fly fishing at a local stillwater. I had never previously experienced flyfishing or even thought seriously about it but in just those first few hours I was hooked forever. Pressure of work, endless meetings, objectives to achieve, etc., meant that my progress was quite slow to start with but then I went on a course of lessons with an instructor and my eyes were opened. Practicing what I had learned made me far more successful, more enjoyment and certainly more fish! Since then I have fished all over Britain - on rivers, stillwaters and reservoirs, from both boat and bank, and always learning and improving the techniques.
In 2000 I decided to retire the briefcase and pick up the fly rod on a permanent basis, got my fly fishing instructors qualification, and now I help and coach others, to share and enjoy this wonderful pastime. I get a great deal of satisfaction from helping complete beginners catching their first trout on the fly, or novice fly fishers achieving their objectives like double hauling, for example. Recently, two young men that I help have got into the England Youth Team and I am sure will go on to be very successful fly fishers. In the summer of 2006 I was asked to help two lady flyfishers who wanted to get into the England ladies rivers fly fishing team. I am pleased to say that both of them achieved their ambition.

The small Company I run is called Mike FlyFishing and is dedicated to offering first-class tuition in fly fishing. My qualifications are APGAI,(Advanced Professional, Game Angling Instructor). This is the highest recognised qualification in Britain for fly fishing. I also have GAIAC (Game Angling Instructor's Association Certificate) and Level 2 CCA (Certificate in coaching Angling
I am also a member of the Game Angling Instructor's Association and am also licensed the Salmon & Trout Association, so you will be in safe hands.
All casting and beginners tuition would be at my approved stillwater, Curley's Trout Fishery, Horwich, Bolton. have a look at www.curleysfishery.co.uk for more details and directions. The fishery is only 5 minutes from junction 6 on the M61 and so it is within easy traveling from anywhere in Lancashire and Greater Manchester or further via M6 or M62. I use most of the North West rivers, the Ribble, Eden, Wharfe and Lune for river fishing, guiding and tuition.
Unlike many of my colleagues, I do not work elsewhere and then instruct in my spare time. I am fully committed to fly fishing instruction and operate full-time. For this reason, all my lessons are 1to1 (unless you book with friends or family members) so you won't be just another number on a "course", you will have my full and undivided attention for the duration of the lesson and I am sure this is the very best way for you to learn and gain confidence, quickly.
